Is HIFU really effective for beauty?

HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) is a professionally applied technology in the field of cosmetology. Originating from the United States, the technology of the HIFU is similar in principle to a convex lens focusing light rays, which concentrates high-energy focused ultrasound waves on a specific point beneath the skin to form a thermal coagulation point, thereby stimulating the contraction and proliferation of collagen and achieving skin tightening, wrinkle removal, and shaping effects.

The primary target of the HIFU in cosmetology is the SMAS (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System) fascial layer. The SMAS is a layer of connective tissue membrane located beneath the dermis, connecting fat to the superficial facial muscles and supporting skin integrity, muscles, and bones. The HIFU can non-invasively reach the SMAS fascial layer at a depth of 4.5mm beneath the skin, forming a reticular coagulation to stimulate the regeneration of collagen and elastic fibres, restoring skin elasticity from the bottom layer, lifting sagging skin, and more thoroughly addressing issues of ageing and sagging.

The application of the HIFU in cosmetology boasts significant advantages. Firstly, it can precisely target the fascial layer at a depth of 4.5mm beneath the skin, which is the key area for lifting during surgical facelifts. Yet, the HIFU achieves similar effects in a non-invasive manner. Secondly, the temperature beneath the skin during HIFU treatment can reach as high as 60°C~70°C, which is the strongest temperature among all non-invasive skin tightening instruments, effectively stimulating the contraction and proliferation of collagen without damaging the epidermal skin. Additionally, the HIFU is equipped with advanced skin scanners and patented positioning indicator lines, capable of real-time scanning of skin tissue changes and precise control of energy delivery points, making the treatment safer, more comfortable, and more effective.

The treatment effects of the HIFU are natural and long-lasting, with visible results after a single treatment, and the effects can last for several years. It is suitable for skin tightening and wrinkle removal on multiple areas such as the face, neck, and chest, significantly improving skin sagging, drooping, and wrinkles. Meanwhile, the HIFU treatment process is noninvasive, requiring no anaesthesia, causing no pain, and no recovery period, allowing patients to resume normal life and work immediately after treatment, earning it the nickname “lunch break” cosmetology.

However, there are also certain risks associated with HIFU cosmetology. Over-treatment may lead to significant loss of subcutaneous fat, causing areas such as the temples and apple of the cheek to appear concave due to loss of facial support. Therefore, when undergoing HIFU treatment, it is crucial to choose a reputable medical institution and professional doctor to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the treatment.
